Customize your clothing and shoes!

I'm all for customizing-- Taking something and turning it into an original by-product of it's former self. Why not? The world is an advanced place and such things are easy. Who says you can't wear $500 shoes and pair it with a shirt you bought at a second hand store? You can tear and cut and bedazzle the hell out of something so why not go a step further and customize your T-shirts or shoes as well? You can even do them without lifting a finger... well figuratively of course. You'll need a finger to click your mouse!

Nike came up with a great concept of customizing your trainers, which can be done at NIKEiD! Once you've selected colours, stripes and laces and what have you, your design gets uploaded onto their system and you get credit for said design. Here you can also buy your design and have them ship it to you.

As for shirts the same can be said for Shirtsmyway.com who boast 7 trillion options for your shirt design. Just remember that less is more! You might want to take a look at leading designers for inspiration on this one.

You may recall I mentioned that I often make my own T-shirts with a printer and transfer paper- it's easy and guarantees you will be the only one around with it.

Now you have no one to blame but yourself if you don't like your clothes!

Back to School fashion

It's Back to school fashion time! A few online stores have sales going on too, and you're into cool t-shirt designs I found a couple on Uneetee's wesbite. What I remember from school (and we were allowed to wear anything we wanted, as in American schools) was that T-shirts were the statement pieces we were after. I always see young teens wearing blatant copies of their idols or peers and I'm still surprised to see these emo Afghan scarves are still being worn.

However this I like - Murder of Crows Tee:

Burberry Portrait Tee

I've been personally waiting for this portrait t-shirt to arrive in my local Burberry store (it hasn't yet) and now you can see a few celebs wearing it with their own personal style. The blazer look is probably the easiest to do if it's slim fitted and neutral in colour (worn by Penn Bagdley and Aaron Paul). As I've discussed before a vintage-y design (if clean) can look pretty great with a jacket or blazer and still be smart.

Nathan Followill from Kings of Leon wore it in white with what I believe is a Burberry snood/scarf executed perfectly in his own rocker style. The roll up, whether unintentional or not is one of the tiny details you can add to your Tshirt-look. You can also fold up the sleeves twice (think James Dean short from back yonder)

Vintage Cartoon T Shirts

Cartoons aren't just for kids! In fact it's becoming more cool for an adult to wear a vintage cartoon t-shirt these days. Again. This time it's not just for your jeans and kicks variety, instead we are pushing a less casual look. Add a hot jacket and you're good to go. I would go for a distressed Tee with a nice fitted blazer like the photo right at the bottom. Pelayo recently wore his version to Fashion week:

I wear my Superman T shirt from time to time ( this one was from when I still had long hair!) and I wore it with my Leather Jacket.

T-shirts like this one are perfect. When you look for a "vintage" t shirt try go for the most discolored, distressed version you can! Nothing pretty and perfect that you'd pick up at the official website!

Jay Jays in Cape Town stock some great options but you can get yours at Slingshot shirts for under $30, but you can find thousands online, just type in Vintage Cartoon T shirts in Google!

Just remember boys, go for the masculine characters! Such as these...

But it doesn't exclude other vintage T shirts like this one:

Joy Apparel Organic T-shirts!

I love it when someone comes up with an original and clever idea and runs with it. My dear, dear friend Jeff from Canada (isn't he handsome?) did just that when he came up with Joy Apparel.

I was thrilled to see a package waiting patiently for me when I got home last night. After a long day you can imagine the pick me up it was! I recognised it immediately. Jeff my friend, Thank You!

I have a new obsession and it doesn't include Anne Hathaway or Meryl Streep. For a while I've been thinking about T-shirts for guys. In America I noticed there are loads of fun options in great cuts and necks, whereas here in South Africa we are pretty limited. Woolworths is a large corporate retailer who hit their woman's wear on the nose, in fact most South African stores get it right when it comes to the female form, but completely keep us guys in the dark. Crew neck is a standard option, and they are always too short for me, and if you find a V neck by some miracle it's a very short V.

So in contemplating this and the assortment of cool idea's I had for designs on said Imaginary/Fantasy/Invisible T-shirt, I stumbled on something very cool: Transfer, wait for it... Paper!
You buy them at your local stationary store, take it home, print something (reversed naturally) from your regular printer and iron it onto a t-shirt of your choice... and hey presto! you have your own custom made design.

This one was just for kicks , it reads "MOJAVE WEST YACHT CLUB" on the front and "AHOY SAILOR" on the back. Why not see what you can do?
