American designer Marc Jacobs about men in high heels

He says, “If I put heels in a collection I always try them on and walk around the studios in them during the fittings, which take up to 36 hours. It raises a laugh with the team for about five minutes because they’ve seen me do it so many times. But that’s not why I do it. I do it because I want to show that I’m not some misogynist designer designing these torturous shoes for women. The heels are there as a choice and if you want to wear them all the time, some of the time or never, it’s your choice.”

Marc Jacobs quilted high-tops

Photobucket

Following a legion of design houses releasing high-top sneakers (Vuitton and Gucci just to name two) Marc Jacobs has released his own version. I think out of all that I've seen these are the nicest and most understated. Certainly a pair that would look great however you wore it. The neon straps from Vuitton, however nice are limiting.

In fact, Marc Jacobs has a history with the quilted effect as it carries into his menswear from the very popular quilted bags he designs for ladies-wear. The burgandy/blood red high tops were available last year for $600 but I imagine like those, the new ones will sell out fast too. They are however just a preview so keep your eyes peeled for a release date.

BANG by Marc Jacobs

Marc Jacobs, appearing in his own campaign for the first time for the new fragrance BANG, which will be available from July 30th. The campaign is a bit reminiscent of Tom Ford though...no? Shot by MJ regular, Juergen Teller.

Marc Jacobs Biker Jacket. Fantastic leather quality and zippage! So although I would very much love to own this beauty I don't think it's even available anymore. Nieman Marcus are sold out. And let's be real, it probably costs $3000 or more!

Marc Jacobs Fall 09

Marc Jacobs brings out his inner nerd on-route to a job interview in his Fall 09 collection. Lot's of layering, lot's of opposing colours and prints. The models were all young Morrisey-ish looking boys with that smarter and cooler-than-your-average expression on their faces. Like many designers, Jacobs included the use of high-tops for a more street savvy wearer.
